Do You Qualify for Preventative Lung Cancer Screening at Greene County Medical Center?
by Greene County Medical Center - November 23, 2022
JEFFERSON, Iowa – In the course of a year, Lung Cancer accounts for more deaths than Breast Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer and Prostate Cancer combined, making it the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. One in 16 people will receive a lung cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, yet 20% of them have never smoked.
The good news is early detection increases survival rates by nearly 20%. Greene County Medical Center is investing in you and your health by offering state-of-the-art preventative care through CT Lung Cancer Screenings and other services to those actively seeking respiratory care.
November is National Lung Cancer Awareness Month and the ideal time to see if you qualify for a low dose CT lung cancer screening. Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria:
- Age 50 – 80 years;
- Asymptomatic—meaning no signs or symptoms of lung cancer;
- Tobacco smoking history of at least 20 pack-years (one pack year = smoking one pack per day for one year; 1 pack = 20 cigarettes);
- Current smoker or one who has quit smoking within the past 15 years; and
- Receive an order from their provider for a lung cancer screening with LDCT.
