Get into the holiday spirit with the many activities pl

JEFFERSON, Iowa – It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are right around the corner and the Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary is busy working to help everyone get in the mood and celebrate in style. From tempting treats to holiday décor and gifts and life-saving donations, the coming weeks are filled with ways to ring in Christmas and the New Year.

Everything kicks off at noon today, Thursday, November 16, with the Auxiliary’s annual Holiday of Lights. The Greene County Medical Center lobby is filled with beautifully decorated Christmas trees, wreaths, gift baskets and more. Everyone is invited to shop, select their favorites and place a bid. Bidding will remain open until 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 6. Bid winners will be able to pick up their items from 2 to 6 p.m. that day or in the Gift Garden from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 7 and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 9.

While bidding at the Holiday of Lights, you can stop in the Gift Garden to shop their unique gift items and holiday décor. They will be offering Saturday hours from noon to 4 p.m. on select dates, beginning with Saturday, November 18, and then again on December 2, 9 and 16.

The best gift we can all give is the gift of life at the Auxiliary’s December Blood Drive, Tuesday, December 12. LifeServe Blood Center is reporting low to critically low numbers of five of the eight blood types. Your donation is used locally at one of the more than 157 hospitals served in Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska. The Auxiliary Blood Drive will be held in the medical center’s main lobby from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment call 800-287-4903.

Come back early to the Greene County Medical Center lobby on Wednesday, December 13 or you may miss out on getting your hands on some of the best homemade holiday treats in the region. The very popular Auxiliary Candy Sale will begin at 7 a.m. and will close down when the candy is gone.

All proceeds raised from the Auxiliary’s holiday fundraising is used to back programs, equipment purchases and scholarships. Thanks to your support, the group has raised over $600,000 for the Greene County Medical Center over the past 62 years. In addition to fundraising, the members also operate the Gift Garden and volunteer their time and personal assistance to departments throughout the medical center.
