Recognize a Greene County Medical Center Nurse for Their Exceptional Care
by Greene County Medical Center - March 7, 2025
JEFFERSON, Iowa –Each spring, patients, families and colleagues of nurses at Greene County Medical Center, the Family Medicine Clinic and Greene County Public Health gather to recognize their exceptional work in patient care through The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses. Since 1999, this program has honored the individuals who devote their lives to serving others with grace, empathy and expertise and who have made a positive and lasting impact in the lives of patients, family members and co-workers.
Greene County Medical Center’s DAISY Award Coordinator, Kristi Wilson, said she receives nominations throughout the year and is moved by the stories shared. “The dedication and excellence of our nurses is evident through the heartfelt nominations submitted each year,” Wilson said. “Those involved in the selection process are often brought to tears when they read how our care is perceived by our patients, their families and our peers. It truly is a privilege to work alongside so many outstanding nurses.”
Nominations for the DAISY Award need to be submitted to Greene County Medical Center by the deadline of Friday, April 18. Forms can be accessed online at DAISY Nomination Form (gcmchealth.com), by scanning the QR code below with your phone’s camera or they can be found in displays throughout Greene County Medical Center.
Everyone is invited to attend the award ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8 in the main lobby of the medical center. The award winner will receive a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a hand-carved stone sculpture from Zimbabwe called “A Healers Touch” and a spotlight on the DAISY Foundation website.
The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura, an auto-immune disease. His father, Mark Barnes, said the family expected Patrick would get great clinical care, but they were awed by the way the nurses helped them all through the darkest days of their lives.
