Giving Tuesday

JEFFERSON, Iowa – Millions of people around the world will be coming together to participate in Giving Tuesday on December 3. Greene County Medical Center and the Foundation will be among them and challenges you to support what you find most important for your family, your community and our world.

“Every year, we see the power of people and organizations banding together to make a difference in their backyards and across the globe,” said Foundation Director, Nancy Houska. “There is no better way to kick off the giving season than by becoming one of the many whose thoughtfulness fulfills the needs of others.  The Greene County Medical Center Team pulls together throughout the year for the benefit of our communities, and we are asking you to do the same.”

The best place to begin is to think about what matters most to you? What do you care about? If your first thought is of your family, friends and neighbors, then a donation to supporting local healthcare will be at the top of the list. There are many ways you can support rural healthcare with a gift to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation. You can become a volunteer, make a tax-deductible gift of grain (which has the added benefit of allowing the producer to claim the inputs for that grain as an expense), by purchasing an ornament for the Foundation’s Tree of Life in honor of a loved one or by making a beneficiary designation, bequest or legacy gift.

Each year, the Foundation also spearheads the annual Greene Backer giving campaign. One-hundred percent of all donations received are allocated to equipment, service and program needs for direct patient care. The medical center has identified the need for new scopes and the associated technology, at an estimated cost of nearly $145,000. “We are happy to report that our employees are responsible for a successful launch to this campaign with more than 50 Team Members pledging over $15,000,” Houska said. “We want to thank each and every one of them for their generosity and we challenge you to support rural healthcare and access for those you love by becoming a Greene Backer on Giving Tuesday.”

Last year’s campaign raised funds for the purchase of radiofrequency ablation equipment for the Greene County Medical Center Pain Clinic. The generosity of those donors have brought pain relief to hundreds right here at home.

Becoming a volunteer is as easy as logging on to gcmchealth.com/volunteer-opportunities. You can also become a Greene Backer by making a donation online at gcmchealth.com/foundation or texting GREENEBACKER to 41444. Houska can also be contacted to discuss other giving ideas at nancy.houska@gcmchealth.com or by phone at 515-386-0108.

You can also support the community by stopping by Fareway between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to make a donation to the food drive sponsored by Greene County Medical Center.

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger, showing up for an issue or people we care about or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.
