Respiratory Care

Respiratory care is a support service working with physician clinics, nursing, the emergency department and other medical center departments to deliver the most state-of-the-art health care to patients at Greene County Medical Center. The respiratory care department provides a variety of treatments and diagnostic tests for patients of all ages.   

All services require an order from your physician.  It is also recommended that you bring your medication list with you for any testing done in respiratory care. Call 515-386-0469 for more information. 

Cardio/Pulmonary Diagnostic Services Include: 

  • Home Oxygen Evaluation: The respiratory therapy team can provide an evaluation to qualify you for home oxygen with a diagnosis and order from your physician. This will include, but is not limited to, pulse oximetry monitoring in the medical center as an outpatient or making arrangements for an overnight oximetry test in your home.
  • Electrocardiograms (EKG)
  • Pulse Oximetry
  • Pulmonary Function Testing
  •  Basic Spirometry
  • Pre- and Post-bronchodilator spirometry     
  • Diffusion Studies
  • Measurement of Lung Volumes
  • Home Sleep Studies
  • Regular Sleep Studies
  • Split Night Sleep Studies
  • CPAP Titration Sleep Studies

Respiratory Care Includes

  • Oxygen Therapy
  • Giving medication with aerosol therapy
  • Metered Dose Inhaler therapy (MDI)
  • Acapella therapy
  • Positive Expiatory Pressure therapy (PEP)

  • Maneuvers designated to facilitate removal of secretions
